Last week I was in the bookstore, as per usual perusing the cookbook aisles, looking for my next addition to the already overflowing bookcases.  Increasingly, I find myself a bit peeved when looking for new cookbooks because some celebrity chef’s cookbooks seem to be taking over.  Don’t get me wrong, I love and have much [...]

That’s right people, zuchinni blondies, and they are vegan too!  Last week in Fire Island, my husband’s friends rented a house for the week.  Erin and Marcus have a veggie garden on Long Island and I was the proud recipient of their leftover unused fresh produce.  Of course there was a bevvy of zuchinni, um…about [...]

I’ve been a busy girl (maybe a bit lazy too) and haven’t gotten a chance to write this recipe down since I posted it.  It’s not really a recipe, just something that I threw together, a method if you will.  It involved stirring, boiling, baking, and blending for the most part.  Feel free to use [...]

Growing up, my mom made a lot of banana bread and we all loved it.  Over the years, along with the conflicting nutritional news/fads/trends, the recipe changed slightly as well.  Originally, the recipe used  butter.  When butter became the nemesis of the American public, margarine replaced it.  When fat in general became the newest public enemy, [...]

Now that’s a long name for a muffin.  They are true tropical muffins in every sense, even down to the Tahitian vanilla.  Let me preface the recipe by saying that I eat my own granola 98% of the time for breakfast.  The other one percent of the time I can be seen devouring a bagel with [...]

These are brownies that I made especially for my non vegan husband Harry.  I don’t think that he can tell that I used all natural and non processed ingredients in them either.
These brownies also really remind me of something that my grandmother would make.  My mother’s mother, Ruth Hendricks Schoenberger was a great cook but [...]

So awhile ago I made my own applesauce after I bought a slew of Macoun apples from my local farmer’s market in Islip, NY. This was about a month ago and needless to say, I have had the applesauce rolling around in my fridge ever since. I had good intentions of making potato parsnip pancakes as a pre-Hanukkah usage of the extra, but I never got around to it. I also did not get around to making my granola so I was out of breakfast for tomorrow. I have spent today paging through my cooking journals and cookbooks trying to figure out what to make for Christmas dinner at my Mom’s in a few days when I came upon a recipe for an apple cake in the book Get it Ripe by Jae Steele. If you are reading this, I strongly urge you to run out and buy her book right this second. It’s amazing and she has also won an award for it.

Up until just yesterday I was quite suspicious of any kind of tofu filled pasta.  I did not believe that the tofu, while being the master of disguise in desserts, could masquerade itself beautifully as a delicately spiced and flavored ricotta.  I have been wanting to make pumpkin ravioli for quite some time.  Thanksgiving is [...]

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a class at the renowned Natural Gourmet Institute for Food and Health in NYC (http://naturalgourmetschool.com) one of the only health supportive professional cooking schools that I know of.  Last Christmas my brother and sister in law were kind enough to give me a generous gift certificate to this school.  [...]
